Frank Gruber was born in 1975. The Austrian wrighter is regarded as representative of a modern existentialism. He deconstructs the conventional thinking patterns of our society in his works. Besides prose, stage plays, poems and aphorisms he chose drawings and photography as his prefered forms of art. Again and again he establishes references to his tyrolian homeland in his texts. In between the Inn Valley, penetrated by a dense industry as far as a mountain landscape, formed by the Northern Limestone Alps, lies the conflict area which constitutes the character of his figures very often.
1996-2001 – Education in humanities
He grew up within an ordinary working-class milieu but his parents nevertheless paved him the way for a typical middle-class education. Academic high school in Kufstein then studies of political science, contemporary history and media. At this time he is fully occupied by the philosophy of the will of Friedrich Nietzsche, the complete works of Sigmund Freud and the capitalism-criticizing works of Theodor W. Adorno. Also early admiration of Goethe, Hölderlin and the Greek tragic poets.
2002-2009 – Early days of writing
First experience as a managing editor in radio broadcast. Collections of aphorisms arise, infuenced by the journals of Peter Handke, who grows to a role model for his work as a wrighter. In 2003 postgraduate-degree for the subject management control. In march of the same year he joins the VIKING Ltd (from 2018 on known als STIHL Tirol). A periode of stylistic determination follows in which his devotion for the existentialism of Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer and Camus is growing. Under the impression of the symbolism also first poems emerge. Until the end of his career in sports he was moreover one of the leading personality in the Austrian baseball scene. With his club the Union Kufstein Vikings he gains amongst others the Austrian championship twice.
2010-2017 – Wrighting becomes everyday-life
In october 2010 publication of the essay «Dauerstress im göttlichen Apfelgarten», where he offers a literary treatment for the global economic crises. Subsequently numerous unpublished works including the novella «Bodenlos», the stage play «Die letzte Zeugin» und poems. In 2013 he begins to work on the novel «Der Anfang der Geschichte». Since 2015 intensified voyages to France, the land of deep longing – travel diaries and journals. The French language gains importance and influences increasingly his narrative style. Strong association with the French literature of the 19th and 20th century (Stendahl, Maupassant, Valéry, Duras).
2018 – Creation of the «édition littoral»
The eponymous website shows his extended forms of expressions as it dicloses the influences on his work. Its model is the exploration of the coastal areas of human being. In november 2018 publication of his first novel «Der Anfang der Geschichte». Therein he critically examines the limits of freedom within a liberal society. For that he adresses among others the issue of the refugees, which dominates European politics since 2015.
